돌이켜 보면 80년대만큼 영화의 사운드트랙과 팝시장이 가까운 적이 없었던 것 같다. 물론 70년대의 Saturday Night Fever가 영화와 팝과의 만남에 있어 기념비적인 업적을 쌓긴 했지만, 80년대에는 Flashdance, Footloose, Top Gun, St. Elmo’s Fire 등의 사운드트랙에서 연속하여 몇 개의 히트싱글이 나오는 등 그야말로 팝과 영화의 밀월관계가 만개했기 때문이다. 이들 영화들이 단순히 팝싱글의 컴필레이션에 그친 것이 아니라 일정 정도 작품성도 확보했기에 그 화학적 결합 효과는 더욱 뛰어났다. 여기 사운드트랙을 통해 인기를 얻었던 80년대 팝들을 몇 개 소개한다. 영화들을 다시 감상하며 중간중간 그 삽입곡을 감상한다면 정말 추억에 젖을 수 있는 순간일 듯.
